Fine European watercolor on paper painting of a steep and scenic coastline, likely the famous and dramatic Amalfi coast of southern Italy or environs, 11" by 8 3/4" inside the gold old Victorian style mat, 20" by 17 3/4" as framed, signed at lower right in red capital letters "H. WAITE". Waite was a member of a large family of artists. The biography is not extensive but he was an exhibitor at the RBA (Royal Society of British Artists, an alternative to the Royal Academy), from 1892 through his death in 1939. This watercolor art shows the skill of a master of the medium. Note the amazing detail of the coastal structures on the hill that tumbles down to the sea, towering mountains above (maybe even snowy patches at the very top). The work has not been opened since the early century (note the old wood boards and the long-ago Boston framer's sticker). Condition is excellent and very original, the colors fresh as can be. There is a tremendous sense of depth and three dimensions on this flat sheet of paper, all due to the obvious skill of the painter. There are some missing denticles on the frame. There is a rectangular white reflection in the glass in a few images.
