Oil on canvas impressionist painting of flowers in a vase on a tabletop with porcelain tea set, a window at left providing a view to a more distant landscape beyond, 24 1/2" by 20 1/2" in narrow wood frame. The painting is signed at lower right and dated 4/80 (April 1980) by Southern California artist JAMES DE LOYE (1949-). A website describes the artist and his background and provides images of a number of reproductions of his work. De Loye, presently living near Whittier, California, demonstrated artistic talent at an early age. Despite a difficult childhood, raised by an aunt after the death of his parents, De Loye attended Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles. Later in life he has traveled extensively, providing inspiration for his artworks. De Loye is also a poet and writer. This painting has been improperly stored. The stretcher is warped from long moisture exposure, the painting on its stretcher therefore torsion-twisted. There is also generalized old soiling and two small punctures which can be easily repaired.
