This is a 20th century restrike of the 1859 etching "Thames Police" (also known as "Wapping Wharf", by the famous American artist JAMES ABBOTT McNEILL WHISTLER (1834-1903). This was printed on a thick, creamy paper at some point in the 20th century. Details in the print are very sharp. The plate mark is quite pronounced. Measurements are 6" by 8 3/4" inside the plate mark and the sheet measures 11 5/8" by 14 1/4", extending well beyond the mat. The print is taped at top in two places to the mat. There is some very light oxidation and minor discoloration in the wide margins. The original print was printed on thin paper and only about 80 impressions are known.
