This small work is a gem of the naive and primitive school of Central America. Measuring 12 3/4" by 11 1/2" as framed, the painting is signed at lower left by the artist, MARVIN KELLY (GARCIA) and is dated there 1991. On the reverse is an affixed paper label of Galeria Josefina in Managua, Nicaragua, giving the title as "Laguna de Masaya". Also on the stretcher again the artist has written "Marvin Kelly/Paisaje (landscape) XXXX (Lacostre)?" The amount of detail in this small work is staggering. Note the leaves, flowering trees, palms, roof tiles, white egret type birds, and four small boats each with a figure. The artist had to have used very small, fine-tipped brushes. Condition is very good with just a little soiling at top in the sky and a small rumple at left, not noticeable unless you look at it. The artist has a small internet presence. Apparently his full name includes "Garcia" at the end.
