Oil on canvas painting of mountains and a beautiful lake, 20 1/2" by 26 1/2" (28" by 34 1/2" framed), signed at lower right by the listed Hungarian painter MARTON BARABAS (1893-1974). Barabas was born in Hungary and received his initial art training there, before moving on to Munich and Paris for further study. Eventually he established himself in Berlin for many years before moving to Los Angeles in 1958. In 1971 a book, "The Art of Marton Barabas de Markosfalva" was published in that city. (Markosfalva is a town in Hungary). The artist spent time in Canada in the later years of his life; though this work is not titled, it could certainly be a western Canadian landscape. Works appear at auction on both sides of the Atlantic. The painting is beautifully executed and easy to live with. Although not mandatory, a professional cleaning would remove a light coating of soil, add sorely lacking varnish, and touch up a few minor abrasions; it would very much freshen up the appearance of the work.
