Gouache on paper drawing of Wise Men on camels in a nocturne landscape, the bright star announcing the birth of Jesus, titled at bottom "Behold There Came Wise Men", 15" by 18 3/4" (22 1/4" by 28 1/2"as framed, without glass), apparently unsigned, but by a little-known California artist, Frederick Millson. This is an accomplished illustration drawing by a talented yet elusive artist about which there seems to be little known. It would make for an unusual Christmas gift. This and two other works by him came out of a San Fernando Valley estate (the others listed here). The family said that they were all works by this artist, who was a family friend who played the cello, and painted scenes of Laguna Beach and Big Bear. A google search reveals some naturalization paperwork filed in the 1930's by an Englishman in Southern California by that name. This might well be that individual. See the two other works, one a still life in pastel chalk, the other a pastel of buildings with figures. There might be a little old water staining at lower right but it is lost in the imagery and is not a significant issue (study the pictures).
