Etching or aquatint in colors, 18 1/2" by 23" (28" by 31 1/2" as framed), titled at lower left margin "Les Vieux (???)" and signed at lower right margin by the noted French artist PAUL EMAIL LECOMTE (1877-1950). Lecomte was born to an artist father and an art-nourishing environment. After attending the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and study under Fernande Cormon, he went to work for the government. While in his 20's he began to exhibit annually at the Salon des Artistes Francais, where he won medals for his watercolors and oil paintings of landscapes, portraits and other subject matter. Evidently Lecomte became a prolific printmaker later in life, as he created a large number of images of the French countryside which now circulate in the antiques community. This example is in very good condition. The mat is rather nicely hand drawn/painted. Allow for reflections in some photos.
