Watercolor on paper painting of an impressive, jagged high mountain peak above a lake, 5 1/2" by 9 1/2" inside the mat (9 3/4" by 12 3/4" as framed), signed lower right, bearing the artist's label and title "Mt. Rockwell/Glacier National Park" on reverse board. This is a work by the California artist RICHARD LEROY CORBALEY (1882-1960). Corbaley was born in Indiana and according to the biography in Hughes' Dictionary of California Artists, he was in Los Angeles by 1902. Works by his hand include landscape, genre, illustration pieces, and allegory. This watercolor has a brown stain at upper right as shown but otherwise is in good condition. New framing would really improve the appearance. Anyone who has visited Glacier National Park in Montana will appreciate the majesty of those robust peaks, captured here by Corbaley.
