Pewter plate, of variety apparently used for special occasions like Purim or Passover etc., 9 3/8" diameter, and filled with incised design consisting of Hebrew characters and an eight pointed star that reminds of the "hex" symbols of American folk art . On the reverse are three "angel/justice" symbols as often seen in these plates, and some writing above that in Roman letters, difficult to decipher. I see the word "FEIN" below one of those angel figures. There is one small rim hole, as from a nail, for hanging this on a wall at some point. Plates not all that different from this have sold above $3,000 at auction. I am not a specialist in fine Judaica, so asked Sotheby's New York to review photos of this item. It was their feeling that it is of German origin, dating to the early 19th century.
