This is a hand painted original work, the subject a newly married couple, he in Edwardian (??) formal coat and medals and monocle, she in traditional white with a corsage. The image was either intentionally cut out by the artist and pasted onto a board which was in turn pasted onto a light green silky surface, or someone has subsequently decided on this presentation. Currently the figures therefore stand out in something of a three dimensional manner from the background. I do not see any evidence of a signature or other identification of the artist, but there is some evidence of age (although I'm not so sure that we could date this to Edwardian days); the silk is sun-faded, having transformed to a yellow where the mat protected it. The cut-out measures about 7" by 4 1/2", and the item as framed measures 13 1/2" by 10 1/2". The perfect gift for your newly-married friends!
