Most attractive watercolor painting of a canal in Venice, complete with gondola and a mantilla-draped figure in red at left, signed rather illegibly at lower right with what appears as "N S Petrovik" or similar. On the reverse board is written in pencil "Canal Lamindo. Van Ansel/Venice. The work is highly detailed, and technically proficient, rivaling the kind of quality of high end painters of Venice scenes such as Martin Rico y Ortega (1833-1908) and others who painted in that style. Measurements are 15 3/4" by 12" (21 1/2" by 17 1/4" as framed). Condition is excellent, the colors bright. There being no mat, it would be advisable to re-frame this to modern standards.
