Watercolor on paper of gazelle running in a subtropical landscape, 17 1/2 " by 13 1/2" inside the mat (27" by 22" framed), unsigned, but obviously by an artist of talent. The work shows a striking visual energy, the animals frozen in mid-step. This could be a scene painted in Africa, or, it could be from the imagination of the artist. The painting probably dates to the 1930's or 1940's or thereabouts, I am thinking, as there is an Art Deco feeling. It is in good condition, though the mat and frame are tired and uninspiring. There are some reflections in the glass and some shadows cast by stubborn spots of foreign material on the glass; there is some rippling of the paper.
