PAIR of English landscape oil on canvas landscape paintings, each including a cottage, a figure (one fishing off a small bridge, the other walking towards the cottage), and feathery trees, each " by " (" by " framed), one inscribed in ink on the stretcher "Sketch in Kent C.J. Riley". If we assume that this be the artist, I am unable to find a listing for such a name. The style suggests a date of circa 1870's. Compare the works to cottage/landscape paintings by English artist who signed as "E. Cole". These works are survivors, the frames missing chunks and the top portion of one completely cracked, and the canvases need to be restored, as there are punctures, dirt and grime, and plenty of evidence of general neglect. Nevertheless the works and possibly the frames too are worthy of professional conservation.
