The oil on masonite painting is quite a complex image, with many figures filling the scene, requiring a talented hand. The painting, perhaps dating to the 1960's or 1970's, 29" by 40 1/2" framed, is signed at lower right "Winnifred Cutler". I believe there is a good chance (but certainly cannot confirm) that this painting is by the hand of Winnifred B. Cutler (1944-), a woman who is commonly credited as a co-discoverer of human pheromones and researcher into many subjects relating to women's health and sexual health. A graduate of Ursinus College in Pennsylvania, Cutler went on to a Ph. D. at the University of Pennsylvania and post graduate studies in behavioral endocrinology. The president and CEO of Athena Institute for Women's Wellness Research, Cutler is described in one online article as an artist "in her spare time". There is also an art prize in her name at Ursinus. The painting reminds me of the work of many accomplished 20th century figural artists, including Alex Katz and members of the Bay Area figurative school. The condition is excellent. A better frame would dramatically improve the presentation of this interesting contemporary painting.
