This is an atmospheric fine little watercolor on paper painting of mountains and water such as might be found in the idyllic Lakes District of the northwestern part of England, or the famed Scottish Highlands, unsigned, late 19th century most likely, measuring 4 1/2" by 6 1/2" (14 1/2" by 17 1/2" in the present framing). The work is in very fine condition. I think that the present mounting situation (just protection) could stand some improvement, as the painting is on a card, a mat not overlapping it (but the watercolor is not directly against the glass). It was taped with masking tape to a modern backing, in the center. I have removed that tape so that there won't be permanent damage. Were the piece signed I feel it likely that the artist would be listed. Allow for a few reflections, and what look like white bright dots are also reflections.
