Original vintage 1939 travel print issued by Pan American Airways System, "Yankee Clippers Sail Again 1838-1939", after the original art by American artist and illustrator Gordon Grant, the sheet 29" by 23 1/2", in a narrow grayish wood frame that might be the original. This image appeared on the August 1939 cover of Travel magazine. The process is lithography on "oilette", a type of shiny paper with a slight three dimensional aspect that mimics brush strokes of an oil painting. These posters are commonly found browned, as this one is. THE PRINT IS NOT ROLLABLE, as it is affixed to board. This might be the way that the prints were made. Other than the browning, the image area is clean, though there are significant water stains in the margins, as shown. I would suggest a new mat to hide these imperfections. The print is highly collectible, commemorating a glamorous era of air travel that is now firmly part of the past.
