Watercolor on paper painting of a mysterious mature forest, the painting itself 10 1/2" by 15", signed at lower right "Arthur Dallmer" or "Arthur Dellmer". The artist does not appear to be listed, surprisingly, and I have tried any number of possible spellings. The painting likely dates to the last years of the 19th century, as an old handwritten inscription in Dutch on the backing suggests (I cannot read the Dutch). There is nearby a label from a Den Haag, Netherlands art handler. The frame is worn, as is the mat, but the art itself is clean and fresh. The handling of the individual trees and the forest as a whole is masterful. More research might reveal more about the painter.
