In the tradition of Grandma Moses we have here a small oil on canvasboard painting, unsigned, 9" by 12" (14" by 18" as framed), the subject snow-covered hills, outbuildings and a white 19th century American house, a distant treeline on the hilltop defining the horizon. This is a charming work by a mid 20th century artist who perhaps knew the phenomenon of Grandma Moses and her work, then sweeping the country. It's a simple work by an anonymous hand, but very pleasing. It seems it was for some reason framed behind glass (I saw remnants of it when I purchased it) and a green mat. I think at this point the work should be reframed, without a mat, like an oil would be framed. The painting is in excellent condition and awaits a new owner.
