Late 19th century painting of the Roman Colosseum, an historical arch and surrounding gardens and park, signed at lower left "Conti". The piece, which measures 6 1/2" by 4 1/4" inside the mat, and 13 3/4" by 11 3/4" as framed in polished, shiny reddish-brown wood, displays exceptionally fine detail despite its small size. The colors are sharp and fresh and the paper not oxidized. This might be a work by the listed Italian painter Tito Conti (1842-1924) but I could not stand by that so I will offer it on its own merits. Frame has some scratches at right side that could likely be sanded out, the area then re-varnished. The work would make a fine addition to a small wall that needs an accent piece.
