Lithograph on paper, 25" by 18" (33 1/2" by 25" as framed), the image of fantasy figures in a lightly defined space typical of the artist's work deriving from fantasy, imagination, dreamscapes, Indian myths and folklore. The print, pencil signed at lower right margin and numbered "H.C. 14/20" at lower left, is by the contemporary Indian artist SAKTI BURMAN (1935-). Burman was born in Calcutta, but has spent most of his life in Paris, with frequent trips to his homeland for inspiration and renewal. Burman's works feature "mythical creatures telling ancient tales of courtly romances and enchanting worlds: comely maidens, children astride elephants, flutists, fruit laden trees, exotic flowers, birds and beasts", as one online site states. Art collectors seem to be quite taken by his mixing traditional western art with that of Asia, as original paintings have exceeded $125,000 at major auctions. This print is in excellent condition with fine colors. See a number of other works by contemporary Indian artists, including Burman, in my shop.
