Oil on canvas laid on board, 21" by 34" (26" by 39" as framed), unsigned, circa 1880 I would guess, the painting consisting of a classic Hudson River view with steep hills bordering a river, a boat completing the scenery. There is a very nice luminosity to this particular example, a very nice handling of the light in the leaves of the trees. The painting has an approximately 5" long horizontal old cut in lower portion as shown, not unusual for a work of this age. There is also considerable unevenness of the canvas as it is laid on the board (see image in upper portion, illustrating this). Again this is par for the course with old paintings. All in all the work is very pleasing and antique. SEE HUNDREDS OF OTHER PAINTINGS, DRAWINGS AND PRINTS IN MY SHOP.
