Dating to just before the outbreak of World War I is this watercolor painting of an impressive home in the gloaming sunset, bordered by tall thin willow trees and a creek or lake, 10 3/4" by 15 1/2" (16" by 21" as framed), signed at lower right "Irene Rowland" and dated there 1913. Surprisingly I do not find a listing for an artist of this name. I believe the work is American, and not English. The predominating color is the orange glow of sunset, various shades of brown completing the palette. Condition is good for a 100 year old watercolor, with an unexplained very, very light diagonal streak in the sky at top center that is virtually unnoticeable unless pointed out. The frame though showing some wear consistent with age is likely the original, and it is quite suited to the painting. Allow for reflections in the images.
