This was once a beautiful late 1950's period example of Italian abstract art, executed by the listed artist, from Venice, Italy, GIOVANNI GIULIANI (1893-1965). Unfortunately due to careless storage by one or many owners (it was exposed to moisture), combined with the artist's choice of materials, it is now a restorer's special, worthy of conservation. I have received a quote of $400 to have it relined so that it can safely travel. The basic concept of the artist remains; most of the damage is in less critical areas of the greenish background. Restoration would save this beautiful abstract for art history. The painting (39 1/2" by 23 1/2", unframed) is signed "G. Giulani" at lower right and is dated 1957, and there is a fragment of an old label showing the title "Nel mio giardino" (likely, I think "From my garden"), and the date 1957; also "SALDINGER GALLERY. N.Y." appears on the canvas. The artist painted landscapes in the 1940's, and tended more towards abstracts in the 1950's, before passing away at age 72. The 1950's was a heyday for Italian abstract and this work hails from that period. Call your restorer. .
