Oil on canvas painting titled "Lemon + White Bouquet" on the reverse, and signed there and signed again on the painting at lower right by the noted California painter Arleen Huseby. From the listing on askart, and the discussion board thereon, I take the following, written in 2010 by her grandson Eric: "Arleen Huseby was my grandmother. She lived from 1912 to 2009. She was fairly noteworthy in Southern California art circles. Studied with Stanley Woodward and Bennett Bradbury, was active with the Laguna Beach Art Association and in the San Gabriel Valley area as well. She was a member of the Desert Art Center, the Quorum Gallery, San Gabriel Fine Arts Assoc., Laguna Beach AA. Listed in Davenport, Desert Art Center Artists, Who Was Who in American Art. She worked mostly in oil, but did some watercolor work. She specialized in seascapes, and painted them all over the world. She taught art for decades, most recently at Saddleback Community College. She was born in or near Milwaukee. Her dad died young (I think when she was about seven), and she grew up with her mother and sister in Chicago, spent WWII years in the Los Angeles area, then lived 1945 to 1958 in Dallas, moving to Arcadia in 1958 and living there until retirement to Leisure World in the mid to late 70s. The earliest artwork I've stumbled onto comes from the Dallas years. It's clearly not as polixhed (sic) as her later work. I'd say her prime was probably from the late 1950s until the early 2000s. She painted well into her 90s. Her first husband, Norm Huseby, died in 1963. Her second husband, C. Elmo Gillett was also a noteworthy artist in the San Gabriel Valley and Laguna area." This painting measures 24" by 18" (31" by 25" framed). It probably dates to the 1970's or so and is in excellent condition. SEE HUNDREDS OF OTHER PAINTINGS, PRINTS AND DRAWINGS IN MY SHOP.
