Oil on canvas painting of a spring floral still life arrangement including jonquils set Japanese style in a shallow dish, 22" by 18", 25" by 21" in its lovely original gold frame, signed at lower left corner by the listed Indiana woman artist SALLIE HALL STEKETEE (1882-). Steketee was born in Brazil, Indiana and is closely associated with that state and its rich art history. She was educated at the Cincinnati Academy of Art, and went on to exhibit at the Hoosier Salon. Steketee was a member of the National Association of Women Artists. She is listed in the Dictionary of Women Artists. Some years back a painting by Steketee commanded $4500 at a Treadway auction in the Midwest. This painting is protected behind glass, probably has been for a long time, perhaps since its creation in the late 1930's or 1940's, so it is very clean and fresh. Together with the fine old vintage frame, this is a very attractive package that will enhance a wall of your home. Condition is excellent. There's a little wear on the frame but hardly enough to notice. .
