Pastel on paper drawing, 5 1/4" by 7", (11 1/2" by 13 1/2" framed), signed at lower right in pencil and bearing old original label on reverse, the subject a bison and her calf in a western landscape, by the noted contemporary California-Wisconsin artist BONNITA BUDYSZ. The artist is a native of Wisconsin and resides there now, but makes frequent painting and lecture trips to the Southwest and internationally as well. She was in San Francisco at age 20, a street portraiture artist. While in the west she took classes at the Palos Verdes Art Center and the Sergei Bongart Institute. From portraiture Budysz branched into landscapes and still life. Over the years she has received increased recognition, through exhibitions, including at the Pasadena Museum of California Art, and in Russia as well (per her website, she paints in the "Russian impressionist tradition"). Media recognition has come from articles in prestigious art publications such as International Artist Magazine, American Artist, Art of the West, and Wisconsin Trails. Budysz is a member of the American Impressionist Society, Oil Painters of America, and the Pastel Society of the West Coast. This work shows beautiful handling of light and color and it is in excellent condition. .
