This is a finely executed watercolor painting, 7 1/2" by 11" (15" by 18 1/2" as simply framed), signed at lower right "E. C. Pascoe Holman" and dated there 1948, I believe it reads. The scene is a classic English town, with a castellated arch over the street, and old-time buildings lining a street with two nuns and a gentleman completing the scene. Holman (1882-1955) was a member of the RWS (Royal Watercolor Society). Very active in the 1920's and 1930's, his work appears to be comprised of mostly landscapes of the south and west of England, though a few continental scenes, such as Bruges in Belgium, are known. The watercolors appear often at auction in England and the US. Condition of this example is excellent with rich color and no foxing. SEE HUNDREDS OF OTHER WORKS OF ART NOW IN MY SHOP.
