This is the colorful silkscreen print "Sunflowers", 14 1/2" by 20 1/4" inside the mat (22 1/2 by 28 1/2" as simply framed---most likely the original framing). The work is numbered 145/200 at lower left and signed in pencil and dated 1959 at lower right. I have owned a number of prints by this much sought-after African-American artist but this image has more color than most--- pinks, oranges, green, gray. I have not yet examined this out of the frame but it appears to be in excellent condition. The old mat has a water stain, well away from the sheet. Williams' prints sell actively at Swann Galleries' specialty sales of African-American art in New York. The category is experiencing a lot of growth and prices of African-American art are reaching new highs. The artist was born in Brooklyn and educated at the Brooklyn Museum School. There he came into contact with such figures as Ben Shahn, Reuben Tam and Gregory Prestopino. Major American museums include Williams' works in their collections. See the net for other images of works by the artist.
