Circa 1940's or 1950's oil on canvas, 25" by 30", (33" by 38" as framed), the subject a vase with pink and white flowers, some blue cornflowers at lower left in front of an open oriental fan, the entire scene suffused with a pinkish, mid-century light. The painting is signed at lower right by the Who Was Who in American Art-listed JOSEPH LANE (1900-), an artist and muralist who trained at the Art Institute of Chicago. Today Lane is most associated with Illinois and his trademark still life works which often appear at auction around the country. This example has suffered some abuse; it is soiled overall, has two very small punctures, a few scuffs/losses in the field, and a larger torn area, at lower right above the signature, that needs to be repaired with a patch and inpainting. The frame show some wear but is in acceptable condition, and it is quite pleasant and appropriate, though the linen liner is dirty and needs to be replaced. The work is in need of some TLC but I believe it well worth investing the money to bring it back to its original condition. .
