Oil on masonite, 18" by 24" (23" by 29" framed), the subject saguaro cactus and other desert vegetation in an arid landscape with canyons and low mountains, signed at lower right with the signature "Darwin". The artist I thought originally was Darwin Duncan (1905-2002), but after seeing another desert oil with the full name "Darwin Taylor", the "Darwin" written as it is in the present work, I have come to realize that this is actually by Desert Art Center painter DARWIN TAYLOR(1921-1975). Taylor was born in Idaho, and painted the desert around Palm Springs at mid century. This painting is titled on a small label on the reverse "Trabuca Canyon". I think it would date to perhaps the late 1950's or early 1960's, but that is a guess. The frame is original and very attractive with the painting. Condition is excellent; a light cleaning would be beneficial (see right extreme edge to visualize how a cleaning would remove some light soiling). .
