Watercolor on paper, unframed, 13 3/4" by 21 3/4", the subject a New England coastal scene with rocks, distant sailboats, and a lighthouse on a headland, the work signed at lower left. This is a typical watercolor painting by the noted artist OTIS S. WEBER of New England. Although he is listed, and works sell regularly at auction, not a lot seems to be known about Weber's life and career, but paintings dated as early as 1876 are known. He seems to have worked into the 20th century. Oil paintings are much less common than watercolors by his hand. At least one oil reached $7,000 at auction. This example has fresh colors, though there do appear to be some old slightly discolored brownish areas in the sky, as well as edge discolorations at extreme left. Once framed and matted, this will be ready for another century of display. **NOTE that all photos were taken through the present shrink wrap, accounting for some reflections of parallel lines in the sky as well as a few hairline scratches in the plastic sheeting that are not on the art itself.** .
