Icon-style painting in gouache on board, late 20th century, executed in the style of ancient religious icons, the painting 10 1/2" by 8" inside the mat, 19 3/4" by 17 1/4" in its pleasing, quality light oak frame. The painting is titled "Saint Neofytos", which literally means, according to a Greek-speaker with whom I consulted (for a lack of a better term), the "NEWLY INITIATED ONE". In addition there is ballpoint pen handwritten notation on the reverse, which translates as "Painted 15 years ago by a British painter. It is an exact copy of the realistically drawn portrait of Saint Neofytos originally drawn on a wall. He (the saint) has his beautiful eyes turned adoringly toward Christ". The painting has a few stray bits of wear in the lower portion but these imperfections are minor and don't appreciably affect the viewer experience. There's a one inch or so scratch below the "S" of Neofytos at right, and a few tiny paper losses in the clothing. .
