Oil on canvas, 20" by 27" and simple wood frame 1 1/4" wide on a side, the subject a ceramic vase with exotic bird motif, on a tabletop, the vase and surrounding area filled with various flowers including carnations, hydrangeas, roses of various colors, and perhaps goldenrod. The work is signed at lower right "G Cocco" (GIUSEPPE COCCO 1879-1963), a listed painter from Naples, Italy. Cocco's signature is hard to decipher and as a result I think he is less known than he should be. This is the second work by the artist I have owned (the other was only 12" by 16"). Found in Vermont, the painting has traveled around a bit and bears a few scars as proof----there's a small L-shaped puncture about 1/2" by 1/2" in the busy flowers at center right (best viewed from the back side, see photo of that), and a bit of jamming of the canvas at top and bottom has left some slack canvas in those areas and two very small punctures. Overall however the painting is in reasonably good shape despite these correctable flaws. The frame if replaced with a gold, quality frame would really make the painting "pop". Works by the artist have sold at auction in Naples at the Euro equivalent of upper hundreds of dollars.
