Watercolor on paper, 6" by 15 1/4" (11" by 20" as framed), unsigned, the subject drawn completely in shades of brown, circa turn of the century or early 20th century, Included in the scene are a number of sail boats of various sizes, and there are a few coastal shacks and houses in the scene, as well as a few tiny figures. Most likely this is a work by an amateur from the east coast, perhaps Massachusetts or the like. The present mat is not professionally cut. I would recommend removing it and replacing it with a proper mat. This vintage watercolor is simple, old, folky, and very appealing in its simplicity, with a touch of Hudson River luminism thrown in by this amateur artist. What appears to be a scratch near a sail is actually the shadow of a scratch IN THE GLASS. Allow for reflections in some images. .
