Oil on canvas High Sierra mountains landscape with snowy peaks, a lake, and alpine trees, 24" by 30" (27 1/2" by 33 1/2" as framed), signed at lower right by the artist (kind of hard to see in the picture---look to the right of a small drip of foreign matter, signed in a red paint), OLIVER GLEN BARRETT (1903-1970), and bearing on the reverse stretcher an original label printed with his name and the work hand titled there "California Sierra". This is a rather characteristic work by this California listed painter, who was born in Illinois and came to Los Angeles in 1921, settling in Glendale. The artist painted the deserts, coastal scenes, and the high mountains of the Golden State. By 1946 he published a book, "The Fascinating Art of Landscape Painting". Some Barrett works are potboilers of lower quality, but this example is one of the better ones I've encountered. Prices have recently risen for finer examples of this artist's work. Condition: Very good. The work could benefit from a professional cleaning to remove simple common grime that has yellowed a bit. .
