Oil on an old board, the subject a snowy high mountain peak at left framed by a forested ridge in the middle ground. 9 1/2" by 13 1/2", the frame 2 3/4" wide on a side, signed at extreme right by the noted Hungarian impressionist painter LASZLO NEOGRADY (1896-1962). Neogrady's later works, such as forested mountains under heavy snow, being much more impressionistic in style, are more familiar to the art buying public. This work likely dates to the 1920's to 1940's period, judging from the board and the tighter, more detailed style and tight, small signature. Auction records for all the Neogrady painters appear to be hopelessly entangled and confused. I gave consideration to this painting being by Antal Neogrady (18 -1942) but the signature does not at all support such an attribution. Condition: Generally very good, the exception being some light vertical cracks at center lower left. A cleaning would also brighten up the painting, removing some old light soil/grime.and yellowed varnish. See the net for much more information on the artist. .
