Oil on canvas, 18 1/2" by 15" (23 1/2" by 20" as framed), the subject a vase of flowers painted in a highly impressionistic manner. The painting is signed in a manner consistent with the notoriously difficult to decipher signature of the artist HENRY d'ANTY (1910-1998) at lower right, so, I am offering it as a genuine work of that artist. I would guess the age as circa 1950's or early 1960's. Interestingly, there is a vintage sticker on the frame reverse from the "Maison Franco" framing and art supplies business, which has been serving artists in the French Riviera area since 1900, according to its website----serving, during that time, no less than Renoir, Soutine, Picasso, and Chagall, in addition to countless other famous and not so famous artists. D'Anty was born in France and painted scenes in Brittany, northern France, and along the banks of the Marne River. He is known for his vigorous paintings rich with color, brushstrokes and paint. Some might be called impressionist, some have a more expressionist appearance. Today he is classified within the ranks of the "School of Paris" artists. A prolific painter, works appear often at auction in Europe and America. This is one of three d'Anty works I am offering in my shop. Condition: there is a small bit of missing paint in the yellow flower at top right. Otherwise the condition is excellent. SEE HUNDREDS OF OTHER PAINTINGS NOW IN MY SHOP. Item ID: JB01550
