This is a restrike of the large folio, popular and well-known lithograph "Winter in the Country---The Old Grist Mill" by Currier and Ives. Measurements inside the mat are 18" by 26 1/4", and the piece as framed is 26 1/2" by 33 1/2". The original 19th century lithograph is in the "Best 50" list, and it inspired many paintings after its publication. This image was originally painted by important artist George Henry Durrie, who was known for his charming classic scenes of mid 19th century New England, namely, Connecticut. Condition appears to be excellent (not examined out of the frame). I would hazard a guess that this dates to the 1920's or 1941 restrikes, but I am not a Currier super specialist by any stretch of the imagination. I CAN say with certainty that the colors and detail assure us that it is definitely not the original, hand colored version---but, neither is it an offset reprint. Nevertheless the image is so American and classic that the work should be able to grace any traditional Americana or folk art inspired home. ALLOW FOR REFLECTIONS IN THE GLASS, mostly at top center, where a pesky balcony bannister is to be seen in some images. See other Currier's in my shop and HUNDREDS OF PRINTS AND PAINTINGS.
