Watercolor on paper landscape of lush green mountains of Kauai, a mother and her child, palm trees and an historical one story building, the Waoli Social Hall, originally built in 1841 during whaling days as a mission church, the painting measuring 18 1/2" by 25" inside the present mat (28" by 34" as framed), signed at lower right "D Williams". The work is not dated but I'd guess it would have been created around the late 1960's or early 1970's. I do not see a listing for this name but further research might turn up some information. The condition is excellent save for the mat being an "overmat", affixed permanently to the paper by the framer, a common technique at the time. The frame is simple and functional, though hardly ornate. This painting came from a small collection of Hawaiiana and art from Hawaii, gathered together over many years by a couple in Los Angeles. They wrote on the reverse, "Waioli Social Hall, the original mission church built 1841, Waioli, Kauai (see page 124, "Kauai, a Many Splendored Island", written by Ron Ronck, published by Mutual Publ. of Honolulu, 1985), Purchased by Ruth & Jerry Milton, 11/19/89--Long Beach Flea Mkt..
