Watercolor on paper, 12 1/2" by 18 1/4" inside the present mat, 19 1/2" by 26" as framed, signed "TOWNLEY" at lower right corner and dated there "Oct. 68". I don't see a listing that would match up with this name but the artist was obviously a talented individual. This appears to be a western mountain landscape in one of the western states. The trees and the animals are beautifully executed, and there's a superb little ink drawing of a fox near the signature. Condition is excellent, though it appears that when it was framed in the sixties, some adhesive was used to bind the overmat to it, so, now outside the actual image, the edges take on a browned shiny varnish look. It's really irrelevant because you will want to re-mat and possibly reframe anyway. The present inexpensive frame is adequate though not flattering. All in all this is a pleasing work for a vacation home or cabin in the mountains. .
