Watercolor on paper coastal of waves breaking on a beach, a few rocks in the foreground, birds overhead and sailing vessels on the horizon, 6 1/4" by 19" inside the mat (19" by 32" as framed), signed at lower left "Lincoln". I believe, having searched the net, that this pleasing work, which reminds a bit of the watercolors of Alfred Thompson Bricher (1837-1908), Francis Augustus Silva (1835-1886), Samuel Peter Rolt Triscott (1846-1925), and William Trost Richards (1833-1905) is by one EPHRAIM FRANK LINCOLN of New England. There is a listing for a Frank Ephraim Lincoln who executed marine subject matter, and his paintings appear at auction in Massachusetts and elsewhere on the east coast. I believe rather strongly but I don't know for sure that this is indeed the artist. The painting is in exceptional fresh condition and is absolutely ready for the wall. I opened the back and see that the paper was laid long ago on a mat board. The framing and mat and inner fillet were all executed in modern times with great care and taste. .
