Watercolor on paper, 16 1/4" by 12 5/8" (21" by 17 1/4" as framed), signed at lower right by noted artist ROBERT LEE ESKRIDGE (1891-1975). This is a scene with a principal male figure, another in the middle distance, all under palms and pandanus trees near a beach. Eskridge was Pennsylvania-born but traveled widely, exhibiting at the Panama Pacific Exposition of 1915, Art Institute of Chicago, and the Chicago World's Fair of 1933. He was also an art educator. Today he is most noted for his paintings of Hawaii and the South Pacific islands. Eskridge was also a muralist and fresco artist, and there is graphic work as well. Paintings in oil and watercolor are eagerly sought after at auctions such as Bonhams and Butterfields. This work is in excellent, fresh condition. I was able to open up the framing and discovered a pencil notation "Resting among the halas" (pandanus trees of Hawaii) at lower left on the reverse. .
