Original etching on paper watermarked "France" (probably Arches paper), 9 3/4" by 7 7/8" (image only), and the sheet with at least 1 1/8" margins (up to nearly 2" at right), pencil signed at lower right by the noted American printmaker LUIGI LUCIONI (1900-1988). This is no doubt a Vermont landscape scene, as Lucioni's prints largely deal with the classic mountain scenery of that state. This example is in good condition if you are seeking a pleasing print to frame, but it is not in pristine condition sought by dealers. There appear to be spots of candle wax on the paper surface, and there is an old horizontal/diagonal handling fold at upper center, and the outer vertical margins have been folded sharply to fit a frame. Framed and matted, none of these flaws would actually be visible to the casual viewer; indeed the wax spots are only visible when the print is held at an angle. Lucioni's paintings in casein and oil bring significant sums at major auctions of American art, and his prints, though numerous, are eagerly sought after by collectors, as he was clearly a master of the etching. See the net for much more information on the artist's life.
