Watercolor on paper, 9 1/4" by 13 1/4" inside the mat (15 1/2" by 19 1/2" as framed), the scene being orderly houses with neat white roofs bordering a small lagoon, signed at lower left with the initials of the artist "M. W. W." and dated there '87 (identified on the reverse as Margaret Wilson Walker, and on a piece of modern tape affixed to the backing paper as Margaret Washburn Walker). I don't see an artist listing or google listing for this name, but obviously she knew how to paint in watercolor. The architecture and white roofs place this view in the British Atlantic island of Bermuda. Art from Bermuda, especially from the 19th or early 20th century, is currently very desirable, and examples by known artists are eagerly sought after. Condition is excellent, especially impressive considering the 1887 date. There is no foxing, nor browning. It certainly has been handled carefully in the course of its life. It does appear that it is affixed to a front-side mat, so, only the area now visible inside the present mat will be viewable. See other Bermuda art in my shop.
