Oil on canvas still life of pumpkin, indian corn, squash, dry oak leaves in a vase, apple and green pepper, on a table top in front of a curtain, 16" by 12" and 3" wide frame, signed at lower left "JOHN J. SOBLE", not dated but likely circa 1940's to 1960 or so. This is a work by a listed artist who exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, National Academy, Corcoran and Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, among other venues. Some works have auctioned over $3,000. The artist was born in Russian and is most closely associated today with the New York area. He worked in a variety of media and with widely varying subject material. This is a fine decorative mid century work. Condition is good with some light soiling and very light craquelure in a few places. Frame is distressed style, wood with some varnish on top, and bears light scratches in a few places. .
