Oil on thin board, 9" by 12" and narrow period frame, oil applied thickly with palette knife, not signed on front but on reverse is written "Bird Rocks/Laguna/Arthur Gail Anderson/May 1954"; This is a vintage look at a familiar landmark in Laguna Beach, the center of the early California art movement. There is a listing for an Arthur G. Anderson born in 1935, known for wildlife art, but it is not certain that this is that artist.. The painting has dirty varnish and would benefit considerably from cleaning. There are a few small losses in the brown of the rock. This plein air painting is highly impressionistic and is best viewed at a distance.
