This set is comprised of 10 Yunomi drinking bowls for tea ceremony and 2 saki beakers curated to form a set. These vessels are masterfully made in different shapes and sizes of tea cups with glazes of green, black, and rust, and brown. These wonderful vessels are made in the wabi sabi style of perfect imperfection. This set was purchased from the former mate of a Utah artist. This artist was commission by the Japanese Olympic Committee to make three hundred vessels for a tea ceremony. The artist decided he like the vessels so much he kept them. They will make an inspired gift or a beautiful display. They are signed " MW" 2002/2001 some have Utah also inscribed on the bottom of the cup.
History:The yunomi is a style of Japanese teacup for daily tea drinking. It has a long tradition, evolving into a variety of styles and shapes that are usually cylindrical with a turned foot. Without a handle, yunomi are ideal for cradling in your hands to savour the warmth and aroma of your drink. The yunomi has become an important form for potters outside Japan - particularly those in the West, who use its deceptive simplicity to explore their skills and creativity. In the West, the yunomi is seen as a playful drinking vessel for anything from water to wine. Yet the yunomi still embodies its original noble function as a piece of pottery that is used, and loved, every day. This set will make an inspired gift or a perfect addition to your collection. One of them is signed please see the photos.
