Pair of Haviland Limoges Hand Painted Signed KsR Night Time Landscape Plates Circa 1876-1889
PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION BEFORE PURCHASING OR MAKING AN OFFER.
Pair of 2 scalloped edge porcelain plates. Both are very nicely decorated with hand painted night time landscape scenes, with gold gilding along the edge. One of the plates has a nighttime landscape scene with a full moon in a dark clouded sky over a rocky coastline, with a boat on land. The second plate is painted with a snowy winter landscape of a moon partially hidden behind clouds over houses, trees and water. Both plates are marked on the reverse H & Co over L in green. This mark was used by Haviland in Limoges France between 1876 and 1889. The snowy landscape plate is signed on the back KsR. The first plate is not signed, but is obviously painted by the same artist.
Both plates have some wear to the gilding. The plate with the rocky coastline is in otherwise good condition with no chips or cracks.
The plate with the winter landscape appears to have been broken into three pieces at one time and glued back together. There are two chips to the foot rim where the break is and several other long and short cracks extending off the breaks. Most of the damage is through the top and side edge of the scene where the trees are. Please see photos.
Each plate measures approximately 8 3/8 inches wide.
