Antique French Perpignan Garnet Brooch

This lovely brooch features a classic design with the five shiny, foiled garnets. Shifting in color from raspberry to red-ish purple, these rare French Perpignan garnets embody a rich history with jewels often passed down from mother to daughter and kept within families. The mines from which these beautiful garnets were mined have long since closed making pieces from the region highly collectable. Nowadays there are also less and less skilled artisans keeping this regional tradition alive. The brooch is hallmarked with an eagle head, guaranteeing at least 18k gold purity. Each garnet measures an impressive 6 mm.

CONDITION NOTES:
In very good antique condition, there are subtle traces of use to the gold but the brooch has many years of life and wear left. Be mindful not to get the brooch wet as this will damage the delicate foil backing. Also be aware that antique brooches do not have a safety mechanism so take care around the stick pin hinge.
