Antique Victorian Whitby Jet Chain Link Necklace Mourning Jewellery c.1880

An antique late Victorian Whitby jet necklace. It is of chain link form with equal sized links and a ring connector for the metal spring hook closure. It would date to the late 19th century and these were used as mourning jewellery. Each link is oval in form and has two holes. The links have a satin finish which was preferred for the first mourning period. The links are all hand made so are slightly different shapes and profiles.

Condition: Generally very good with minor wear. Losses of black enamel to metal spring hook and connecting ring. Satin finish.
